ASIST in Hobbema

I went to Hobbema earlier this week to deliver an ASIST, in Samson Cree Nation, with my co-trainer Mike. I have been there before and it has always been a great experience. The people there are very friendly and eager to help the community on social issues such as suicide.
While we were there, an intern from the University of Alberta, Alison, has started a blog about the work being done by the Community Justice Program. The ASIST is one of their initiatives in the community.
Here's a link to the blog with some very nice pictures (I even like mine!)

Also here's a picture of my co-trainer Mike, myself and Luci from the Community Justice Pogram!

Sweetgrass and Sage

Here's a couple of flyers of cultural activities that I really really really wanted to attend. When we called to register we were told that it was completely full with other dates that are also full....so myself and a group are on a waiting list. So I wait, wait and wait....This did not really surprise me as learning some of the traditional ways has always been an interest to people.I have picked sage before with some friends but I was very interested in learned the protocols from these communities.I guess I will wait and see....

BRAID Kids Newsletter & Family Fitness Challenge

7/13/2011

The months of July and August are going to be busy for me. I usually take the month of July off and spend time with my grandchildren. I also like to travel somewhere great!
This time I'm going to try to do it all.....as well as helping out in the BRAID Kids project doing some sessions in the Family Fitness Challenge.....so I think it is going to be hectic but worthwhile!
Here's the latest newsletter and some info on the Family Fitness Challenge. I'm going to document the event as I believe it is a great project with the potential to inspire families to work on a healthier lifestyle.
