I am a First Nations Cree woman. I was raised to understand that we lived, with respect and consideration, to the land. In some ways we are the protector, we see our Mother Earth Gifts, and we are grateful. I think we have an agreement with the land. We will share the resources our Mother gives us and we,in turn, will honour and protect those gifts.
The IDLE NO MORE movement is a call to protect those gifts. It's our way of saying, in a peaceful and respectful way, that we will speak for our Mother. Chief Theresa Spence is on her 17th day of a hunger strike. She asks for the Prime Minister and the Crown to meet with the First Nations leaders. She, and others that are fasting with her, are willing to give their lives for the people and the land. She asks for our voices to be heard. I have never been prouder to be First Nation's.
Idle No more started as a social media movement that is being heard around the world. In Canada the First Nations people have held road blocks, for 2 to 3 hours, to draw attention to the movement. There have been Flash Mob Round Dances held on a regular basis. There are allies in Canada helping to keep the movement alive.
We need Bill C-45 to be repealed. We need a process so that First Nations people can be heard. We need to ensure that we no longer live in poverty with poor housing conditions. First Nations people choose to honour their Treaties by living on the land that we agreed to live on. In turn we need the resources to support a healthy way of life.
Idle No More information can be found on Facebook and Youtube. Take some time to check it out. Listen to what Chief Theresa Spence has to say. And join us. There are Rallies and Flash Mob Round Dances happening around the world. Speak for the land and the people.
